During this year’s EICMA show in Milan, Honda revealed updates to its flagship sportbikes, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP for 2024. These include changes aimed at improving power delivery and handling. Details are provided by Honda Europe, so there’s no indication yet when the updates will debut on US shores, and pricing will vary depending on the country in which you’re looking to purchase.
Editor’s note: We last reviewed Big Red’s liter-class superbike during the 2021 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP First Ride Review and 2021 Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP MC Commute Review articles and videos.
Both superbikes promise better midrange acceleration and top-end power thanks to a number of revisions to the 999cc inline-four engine. These include a new cylinder head and updated compression ratio, revised valve timing and springs, along with a lighter crankshaft and con-rods. The gearbox features shorter ratios and the Akrapovič muffler has more volume than the previous models.

Honda also added a new 2-Motor ride-by-wire system that improves partial throttle control and provides increased engine-braking when required.
The frame was revised for better flexibility and the winglets have been updated to reduce yaw while cornering. The ride position is slightly altered as well, with higher handlebars and lower footpegs.
The standard Fireblade retains its Showa suspension setup, but the SP features the latest Öhlins Smart Electronic Control which includes a new preload guide, accessible on the full-color TFT display panel. The SP also gets new Brembo Stylema R calipers at the front.
Cornering ABS will feature a new Race mode for both models, which will allow riders to turn ABS off completely at the rear wheel.
The standard Fireblade and SP edition will be available in a Grand Prix Red colorway while the SP will also come in a Carbon Edition which features Matte Pearl Morion Black paint along with a number of carbon fiber parts. The Carbon Edition is limited to only 300 units.
