All streaming services (including the game-related ones) continue to get more expensive. Video services offer ad-based tiers to keep costs low, and Prime Video has just announced its ad-based tier.
A press release back in September announced an upcoming ad-supported Prime Video tier in 2023, and Prime Video has finally ripped off the band-aid to reveal when they plan to introduce ad-supported viewing to their Prime Video service. The answer is January 29, and even back in September, Prime Video said, “We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month,” which is basically what is being offered now, but for an extra $2.99 per month.
With the last Prime Video 15% price hike landing back in February 2022, the company has been relatively good about keeping the status quo of their subscription tiers, but today, they’ve announced a complete overhaul, which increases pricing. Prime Video said, “Starting January 29, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements,” which will “allow us to continue investing in compelling content and increasing that investment over a long period.” While they aim “to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers,” current subscribers will have to update their accounts to remain commercial-free.
How To Keep Prime Video Ad-Free
All members need to do is access their account information on the Amazon Prime website. From there, members will have the option to select which video viewing tier they would like to access. Consumers should note that the new price will be an additional $2.99 per month on top of what they already pay for Amazon Prime.
